Proposal

Aims

The aim that my documentary is going for is that it is trying to let the audience learn about the many different obsessions that people have, and how many are very harmless, but at the same time many are very harmful, to people and can leave a big impact on their lives. We are planning to include interviews which will let us be able to give information to the audience that they can not simply find on the internet. We are planning to teach the audience many things, such as what an obsession actually is, what kinds of obsessions there are, why people spend so much time and money on them, why people enjoy their obsessions, and if they think they need help dealing with their obsessions. These are questions not many people ask, which means not many people really know the answers to these questions

Content

In my documentary the makers of the documentary would be going around talking to the audience about how obsessions can be a big deal in someones life, then they will go around to there many people with very different obsessions, and they will talk about how much of an impact this obsession has left on their life, if it is just a simple hobby, or if it is an addiction. These people with obsessions will be interviewed, saying if their obsession is fun and positive, or if its an obsession that they wish they could stop.

Target Audience

The target audience for my documentary would be people around the age of 16-24 who are British males and females, I am not focusing on any ethnicity's. Many people around the age of 16-24 have obsessions and obsessions effect many young people, such as young people being obsessed with celebrities, going on the internet, playing games, etc, but many of these people are not aware on how obsessions can lead to something much worse.

Format

The format we have decided to go through with is the 'Performative' Documentary. For this kind of subject, we decided to have the presenter interact with the people who have the obsessions. We had imagined that the presenter would go into the field and go through what kind of obsessions and the details of the obsession. When interviewing someone with the obsession, camera would mostly be tracking the presenter as we want the shots to be as exciting as possible so the audience can immerse themselves in it as well. When interviewing some of the obsessed people, I want them to indulge in their obsessions as we are talking so we can get an insight into how their obsession takes over them.

Genre

The genre of this documentary that we are creating is more along the lines of a participatory mode because the presenter will be taking part in the documentary and will be indulging in the lives of the of people with the obsessions. I have thought about bringing this documentary into different genres like observational or observational  because they would bring the topic of obsessions into a new light but this has been done already so instead, I thought of showcasing the more bizarre obsessions to the world because it would be better showing the audience something new rather than 'water the dead flower' meaning that I don't contribute to making the same thing that other people


Style

The style of the documentary will include a range of professional shots, graphics, videos and images because this is what a documentary consists of. Since the documentary that I will be creating will be a participatory mode, the documentary mode would contain hints of comedy as the presenter tries to indulge in the activities with the obsessed individual. While there are hints of comedy in the documentary, I will try and make the documentary very serious because the topic I have chosen isn't going to be taken lightly. The documentary will carry a formal tone to it because I want to dive into the topic, telling all of the facts to the viewers about what obsession is and how it could possibly corrupt someone's life, including OCD, which can be quite serious,
